Meditation, Solitude, and Silence

by Ben Joiner on Feb.01, 2009, under Sunday Nights

We’ve spent the last few couple of weeks talking about the spiritual disciplines of meditation, solitude, and silence.  John asked us to try and turn our radios off when we were in the car this week.  Just wondering if people tried doing this and how it went for them.

I spent some time listening to music and some time not listening to music. :) I’ve found a balance, it’s not something I struggle with.

I did, however, go on a jog/walk around the lake with my brother. It was relaxing and peaceful. It caused me to reflect on how blessed and thankful we are. If anyone is interested in going out and breaking away from life… let me know.

I found distractions… realized the driving is not the best way for me to spend time in silence. There’s just too much going on.

I’m with you Kimberly. I found it quite difficult to keep having to bring my thoughts back to God. Even though I wasn’t listening to music, I found myself singing in my head or thinking about something less important.
